NewsPulse app privacy policy

No accounts or personal tracking

The app has no user accounts, sign-in or profiles. NewsPulse does not create a persistent user, device, installation or advertising identifier and does not collect location, contacts or reading history.

The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising-network SDK or tracking code. It requests only network-access permission from Android.

Settings and cache stored on the device

Your selected news country and app language, theme, headline size, news layout, sorting order, country-specific disabled news sources, first-run status and anonymous usage-estimate choice are stored only in the app's private local storage. They are not sent to NewsPulse as a settings record and are not used to build a reader profile. Android backup is disabled for the app.

The app may keep news API responses on the device for fast, limited offline use. The cache is limited to 32 responses and 8 megabytes; the oldest data is removed automatically. Search results are not cached. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app removes the local data.

News and archive search

The app retrieves news only for the selected country from the NewsPulse API over HTTPS; it never fetches RSS feeds directly from publishers. The selected country forms part of the requested country-specific API address, but the choice is not stored on the server for an individual reader.

Disabled-source choices are not sent with API requests. The app retrieves the news list from the first-party API and locally hides cards whose displayed publisher has been disabled, together with that publisher's links in grouped stories. Server-side grouping and ordering are not changed.

When you search, the search term is sent over encrypted HTTPS and is processed only while results are being produced from the current news feed and the archive of public news links. The search term is not written to logs or retained. Archived headlines and links are publishers' public content, not app-user data.

A network request requires transient processing of an IP address for connection routing and abuse prevention. NewsPulse does not retain the address, request user agent or search as an event row or reader-specific log.

Optional anonymous usage estimate

The anonymous usage estimate is enabled by default and can be disabled at any time in the app settings. It sends only the names of new UTC-day, ISO-week and month periods for which the device has not yet received an accepted acknowledgement. The device stores locally only the most recently acknowledged period keys. A failed or unacknowledged request may be retried.

The request contains no user, device, installation or advertising identifier, country, language, search or news item. The server increments only the period's aggregate total and retains no individual event, timestamp, IP address or other request metadata. The figures are intentionally approximate and do not represent a count of unique users.

Daily aggregate totals are retained for no more than 400 UTC days, weekly totals for no more than 120 ISO weeks and monthly totals for no more than 36 months.

Publisher websites and sharing

Opening a story transfers you to the device's external browser and the original publisher's website. The browser then connects to the publisher, and that publisher's terms and privacy policy apply. NewsPulse does not open full articles inside the app.

When you press the share button, the app gives Android's share chooser only the story headline and link. The app you select receives those details under its own privacy policy. NewsPulse does not learn which app or recipient you selected or the outcome of sharing.

Security

The app permits only HTTPS connections to the NewsPulse news and usage-estimate APIs. API responses are bounded and validated before use, and the local cache has a fixed size limit.

Contact and changes to this policy

Privacy questions can be sent to info@haaveri.org. Sending email is a separate action chosen by the user outside the app: the message and sender address are processed in order to reply. The app does not send these details.
